Laser Eye Surgery Treatment Risks
Risks of Surgery
When making the decision on whether to have laser eye surgery it is important that you are fully aware of the potential risks of the procedure that are present with any medical operation.
Whilst millions of people every year benefit from Laser eye surgery there are risks involved.
Each individual has to weigh up the risks and make the decision themselves and should not be swayed by others opinions
Loss of vision
In the most serious cases patients can completely or partially lose vision.
It may not be possible to correct correct full or partial loss of vision through spectacles, contact lenses or further laser eye treatment
Over Treatment / Under Treatment
Although there is a widely held perception that laser eye surgery will give the patient 20 / 20 vision this is not always possible and you may still need to wear contact lenses or glasses after treatment.
You must be aware that laser eye surgery is not 100% reliable and through under treatment and over treatment, imperfections can remain
Dry
Eye Syndrome
Your eyes are kept moist by tears produced by tear ducts.
A possible side effect of laser eye treatment is that these tear ducts no longer produce the required level of tear for comfortable every day eye movement.
This can lead to soreness and a blurred effect.
Whilst eye moisture drops may help the condition the condition may be permanent
Diminishing
effects with age
More of a problem for farsighted patients – with time
the effects of laser eye surgery can diminish and any improvements
initially found may recede.
Debilitating
visual effects
It is possible that after laser eye treatment a series of visual effects may be experienced by the patient these can include increased blurring, reduced night time vision, increased glare.
It is possible that these issues can be worse than before the laser eye surgery took place.
