Dr. McGowan began his practice of Ophthalmology in 1975. A Charleston native, he finished his Bachelors degree at the University of South Carolina in 1965 and went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1969. Dr. McGowan fulfilled an internship in internal medicine at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals. After serving in the United States Air Force as a general medical officer for 2 years.
